Introducing one of my Equine Inspirations

Appaloosa at Liberty Artists Model for Shannon Ford
Red Leopard Appaloosa Rocco is a great inspiration to me!

I wanted to introduce you all to the special horse that is inspiring the “Rocco” Series.  This is “Rock’N Roll Train”, a Red Leopard Appaloosa who plays at liberty with his young owner, Madison MacDonald.  To watch them together is shear magic as Rocco’s connection with Madison is evident.

Why paint Rocco?

When I am looking for equine models for my artwork, it is usually something indescribable that catches me and won’t let me go.  For example, the day I met and interacted with Rocco, I also met another 30 exceptional horses… but the connection for me was with Rocco.  Not only is he expressive and beautiful, but there is something that happens in me when I am near him or  see him… from the first moment I saw Rocco,  I knew he might just inspire some amazing expressive artworks…

It is always an adventure, I like to get to know the horses I paint, to discover them…as I begin a painting not knowing or planning what will happen on canvas… it is my connection with my subject that makes that happen…

Thank you Rocco!  And thank you to Madison, Debrah and Bruce for sharing your wonderful horse with me, and with the world of horse lovers!

And my hat is off to Heather and Jim at Thunderstruck Ranch, for breeding intelligent, athletic, willing and beautiful Appaloosas!

I invite you to visit Madison MacDonald (Phenomenal Trick Rider)
